Village Connections
Village Connections aims to extend a warm welcome to new families to help make the transition to a new school (and often a new country) a bit smoother and to provide all ASIJ families with unique opportunities to learn about Japan. Village Connections coordinators share information about ASIJ and life in Japan and organize social events for families to meet their neighbors, such as morning neighborhood coffees. In connection with ASIJ’s Japan Center, they also arrange for Japanese cultural opportunities.
Neighborhoods are divided into the following areas:
Roppongi, Azabu, Hiroo and surrounding areas
Shibuya, Nakameguro, Daikanyama and surrounding areas
Setagaya, Suginami, Shinjuku and surrounding areas
Chofu, Mitaka, Kichijyoji and surrounding areas
Parent-Led Clubs
Parent-led clubs are informal groups of adults within the ASIJ community that meet to share, create, discuss or experience a common hobby or interest. They are open to both current and alumni parents, and newcomers are welcome to join at any time. There are currently over 20 clubs! They are very popular, and a great way to meet other parents. For a list of current clubs, check the Parent-Led Clubs page under PTA on the PTA website.
Community members are also invited to establish new clubs; the PTA provides support by promoting it to other parents and creating a sign-up for the club. Clubs can meet as often or as infrequently as the club coordinator determines.
