Composting is one of the easiest and most impactful ways you can support sustainability. Did you know that our HS has a Compost Club that is reviving composting and gardening at ASIJ? The student’s gardening is made possible by the Rooftop Garden Initiative, and they manage several compost bins across campus with the support of the cafeteria and school maintenance teams. Want to give composting a try?
Are you looking to start composting, but hesitant because you live in an apartment? Fear not! Composting has dramatically changed in Japan over the last three years, and it is now accessible for apartment dwellers as well. The restrictions on what to put in the bin are less (oil, meat, fish, and eggs are ok) so it’s easier for first-time composters to try.
To get started, check out LFC Compost, featured on NHK World. My family has been using them since 2020 and it has changed our mindset, as well as decreased our food waste. I’d love to help you get started too, so don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
