This is a parent-run group created for current parents of ASIJ students. The purpose of our group is to develop a network of parents that promote awareness and advocacy for children with specific or special educational needs. Parents connect and share resources, information and experiences. The connectivity provides a positive, supportive and informal community for ASIJ parents. There are already 30 members in the circle but we do not have a limit on participation.
We would like to invite all parents/primary caregivers who are working with the ASIJ Learning Support team or have children with exceptional needs, diagnosed disabilities (physical, behavioural or developmental) or families that are in the process of pursuing a diagnosis or have questions about neurodivergence. There is no cost to join the group.
The next meeting is planned for February 2nd titled “Understanding Learning Differences Through Experiences” with Leah Llamzon, Speech and Language Pathologist, and Kim Porter, Support Specialist & UDL Coach. This session invites parents to step into their child’s learning experience and gain a deeper understanding of learning differences. We will begin with an overview of how children learn in different ways, followed by interactive activities focused on a range of learning profiles, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. Parents will participate in a sample lesson as students do, experiencing strategies teachers use to support access, engagement, and learning. Time will be provided for reflection, discussion, and Q&A, along with information about professionals who support students and families beyond school. We hope you will join us! Please RSVP using this link.
