Want to learn Ikebana? Through our continuing lessons, you will learn about the traditional Japanese art of Ikebana while experiencing hands-on arrangement time with seasonal flowers to develop your technique.
Ikebana Club leader and ASIJ parent Aiko Matsumoto belongs to the Sogetsu School of Ikebana and is a 1st-Kyu Instructor instructor. The Sogetsu School emphasizes reflection and individuality over strict adherence to form.
The class will meet in Mitaka (15 minutes drive from ASIJ's Chofu campus or 7 minute walk from the Mitaka JR station). The lesson fee of ¥3000 includes the flowers, which will be ordered 3 days in advance, so last-minute cancellations (less than 72 hours before the class) and no-shows will be asked to cover their lesson fee.
Please bring:
• Flower scissors
• 2-piece round needle-point holder for flowers (a.k.a. flower frog)
• Shallow flower basin with a diameter of at least 25cm
If you don't have these, a kit containing traditional Japanese flower scissors(わばさみ), a flower frog(剣山), and a round flower basin(基本丸水盤) is available to purchase for ¥15000 (this is our cost).
We will also have some extra flower frogs and basins available to borrow for class, but please bring scissors and a large bag to bring your flowers home in.
