What is Spirit Day?
This rain or shine annual sports festival tradition is a non-fundraising PTA event. It is an opportunity for everyone to spend time together celebrating our Mustang Pride!
Join the entire Mustang community for a festive day of sports and activities on campus. The sports schedule includes swimming, volleyball, tennis, soccer, and football. The campus will be full of other festival-style booths — face painting, chai and henna, temporary tattoos, cotton candy, photo booth, giant bowling and more — all run by our very own service clubs. Feel the spirit through music — listen to performers of different ages and embrace the vibes!
Help us welcome all the visiting teams from across Kanto and Asia, especially those participating in the YUJO volleyball tournament and show them our Mustang hospitality. Cheer on our own Mustangs with clapping, stomping and cheer as they give it their all in competition,
Enjoy some morning treats and then a lunch hot off the grill. Want more variety? Visit one of our many food trucks and then grab some snacks from our Student Clubs. This is truly a community event, made possible by the time and efforts of many parent-volunteers, our ASIJ students and the overall generosity of the school. Bring your energy to campus and be a part of our thriving ASIJ Community.

Spirit for Sustainability
Pre-loved Spirit Wear
Donate your old ASIJ T-shirts or hoodies that are clean and still in good shape. Please send them (washed!) with your child to school before October 4. The collection boxes will be placed in front of the kiosk in the MS Commons and in front of the ES Office. The MS FFF (Fighters for the Future) club will set up a Pre-loved Spirit Wear Stand for Spirit Day.
More Sustainable Every Year
We aim to make a conscious effort to reduce the amount of waste, especially plastic, used on Spirit Day. Most food items will be served with paper wrappers and coffees will be served in paper cups. We encourage you to bring reusable water bottles. If you would like to take home some delicious food at the end of the day, you are welcome to bring your own food containers as well. We will be using the cafeteria cutlery and dishes for vegetarian and breakfast options. Our Middle School students have volunteered to do the dish washing while our Elementary School Stuco will help collect and sort garbage. We ask you to be conscious of trash sorting and recycling as we work together to make these events more sustainable.
Support our High School Drives
All collections will take place at the Chofu campus from September 30 until Spirit Day.
ASIJ Sustainable Fashion Club: Jeans Collection
Donate jeans that you no longer wear, in any condition! The jeans will be sent to the Japanese denim reformation company, Itonami, where the old denim will be transformed into new products. These items will be available at the Mustang Market, creating a cycle of sustainability.
ASIJ Food Equality Alliance: Food Collection
Join the Food Equity Alliance (FEA) in collecting unopened, non-perishable foods with expiration dates at least three months out to support families in need. See poster for a complete list of requested items. All donations will benefit approximately 40 families in our local community who are facing food insecurity. Together, we can make a difference.
ASIJ Pre-Med Society: Ronald McDonald Drive
The Pre-Med Society will be collecting tissue paper, toilet paper, kitchen detergent, laundry detergent, and stick coffee for the Setagaya Ronald McDonald House. The House works to provide families of severely ill or injured children with a "home away from home" facility where families can visit their child and have direct contact with their child's medical team.
Payment on Spirit Day

Bring your parent ID and make sure your Gold Card is sufficiently charged and with appropriate upper limits for charging! If you prefer to use cash, please consider bringing cash in smaller bills or coins (100 yen especially!)
